Combo Camp Class Descriptions

Favorite Authors

Grades 1 – 2

Sessions 3 (AM)

 

In this exciting class, campers will journey into the imaginative world of children’s literature through exposure to some of the world’s most influential authors, including but not limited to reading selections from Dr. Seuss, Ezra Jack Keats, Laura Numeroff, and more!   Campers will enjoy a variety of activities associated with some of their favorite books, they will explore books both as a group and individually, and most importantly, they will have fun with reading!  Both beginning readers and more experienced readers are welcome.

 

Reading Booster

Grades 1 - 2

Session 5 (AM) and 6 (AM)

 

Campers will focus on the FUNdamentals of reading in this academic support class. Reading Booster is designed to reinforce key concepts and skills in reading through academic games, puzzles, and activities. Each class is focused on specific grades so campers will receive specialized attention, giving them the support and confidence they’ll need to thrive in the upcoming school year.

Math Mania

Grades 1 – 2

Sessions 6 (PM) and 7 (PM)

 

Hooray MATH!!  Math Mania campers will explore the realm of mathematics through real-life simulations, math games, computer programs, and creative manipulatives. This class allows campers to improve their math skills in a collaborative and entertaining environment by blending mathematic concepts with fun and adventure.  

 

 

 

 

 

My First Bake Sale

Grades 1-2

Session 2 (AM) and 7 (PM)

 

What a sweet treat! My first bake sale introduces campers to the world of business from a fun perspective. This class will be doing some baking and banking! Campers will work in groups to research the best brownie, cookie or sweet treat recipe. Campers will cost out the recipe, taste their product, market their sweets “for sale” at the end of the session. These cooking campers will be young entrepreneurs by the end of the summer!

 

 

 

 

Creative Reading and Writing

Grades 3-5

Sessions 6 (PM)

Have a budding reader, young journalist, or avid daydreamer? Harness the beauty of the young mind through fun storytelling, artistic storyboard creation and tactile activities. One of Summer at Norwood’s creative teachers will coach campers to delve deep into their imagination to the forests of Where the Wild Things are, or to the hills of The Hobbit. Class welcomes all levels of reading and writing skills.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

School Skills

Grades 1-2

Session 7 (AM)

 

School Prep is designed to support campers’ transition back into academic instruction through entertaining activities and lessons. Time is spent on a range of academic subjects, including but not limited to language arts, math, and science.  Students are taught skills and techniques that will have them ready for the next school year. Whether your camper wants additional support or just wants to expand his or her knowledge, this class will encourage all campers to “stay fresh” with their school skills. 

 

 

 

 

 

Math Olympics

Grades 3 – 5

Sessions 6 (AM) and 7 (PM)

 

This dynamic class will encourage students to hone their math skills by playing games and solving creative problems in an Olympic-like atmosphere. Working independently and in groups, campers will be challenged to use their math skills to compete in a range of math-themed events and contests!  “Mathletes” of all skill levels are welcome, and will be stimulated to develop a new enthusiasm for problem-solving.
