In an effort to provide convenient and flexible solutions to our family's scheduling needs, Summer at Norwood offers one-week options for our Combo Camp and Junior Day programs during Sessions 4 and 5, which are generally two-week sessions.

 

Combo Camp classes that are available for one-week registration are listed below.  Please note that the selections are limited because many Combo Camp classes in Sessions 4 and 5 are designed with a two-week curricula.  Click the "ONE WEEK REGISTER HERE" button above to sign-up for a portion of any of these great sessions.

3D Art NEW!

Grades 1 – 2 

Session 5 (AM)

Campers will take their art to the next dimension in this innovative, hands-on, super creative 3D art class!  By learning how to create depth, length, and height in their artwork with different media and materials, campers will be able to create unique, inspiring three-dimensional works of art.  Whether they’re creating art that looks like it’s jumping off the page or creating sculptures out of eclectic materials, campers will love their artistic 3D masterpieces! *Material Fee: $25 (Two-Week Session), $15 (One-Week Session).

Art Blast 

Grades 3-6

Art is a diverse range of creations that express an artist’s imaginative and creative skills, and young people are among the world’s greatest natural artists!   Campers in Art Blast will explore advanced studio art techniques by examining the elements of art and the principles of design in the pursuit of creating an accomplished work of art.   We will accomplish our goals by investigating a wide variety of art mediums to help campers acquire and hone advanced skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and more! *Material Fee: $25 (Two-Week Session), $15 (One-Week Session).

In this popular Summer at Norwood classic, budding artists have the opportunity to explore and express their creativity through various forms of art. In one of Norwood’s art studios, campers will undertake a variety of projects and use their skills to create works that they can take home to display proudly!  Students’ work may include drawing, painting, collage, creative projects using recycled materials, and more! *Material Fee: $25 (Two-Week Session), $15 (One-Week Session).

 

Into the Deep: Sea and Space Explore

Calling all explorers!  Let’s examine the final two mysterious frontiers:  the seas and outer space!  These final frontiers are vast spaces filled with unique creatures and natural wonders that are just waiting to be uncovered and explored.  Campers will take an expedition to the mysterious world that thrives under the sea.  From shallow coral reefs to the darkest depths, campers will learn all about our oceans and the unique creatures that lie within.  Campers will also journey through the cosmos to discover planets, asteroids, stars, black holes, and more!  This exciting class will also offer a variety of interactive projects and lively activities! 

Slime Time NEW!

Grades 1-2

Session 4 (AM)

 

Campers in this super fun class will never hear the words, “Stop making a mess.”  On the contrary, messy experiments is what “Slime Time” is all about!  Campers will create slime, gak, and other mucky concoctions, they’ll learn why materials react the way they do, and they’ll discover both practical and amusing uses for our messy creations.  Some call it gross, but we call it fun!

Lego Design

Grades 1-2 

Session 4 (AM)

Nothing brings out creativity, ingenuity, and problem-solving abilities like Lego building and design.  On top of all that, it’s really fun!  Campers will learn the application of engineering, technology, and art concepts all while having fun working both individually and in teams to build cool Lego projects.  They will work from themed Lego sets and will collaborate with classmates to create larger projects through step-by-step problem solving.  Campers will have time for creative free-building, too!

 

Young Builders

Calling all budding architects and engineers!  This is the class for you!  Campers will learn basic concepts of structure, design, and architecture, all while having fun building projects with a variety of materials, from blocks and magna tiles to recycled materials.  They will work both as a team and individually to create structures and objects by setting goals and overcoming challenges.   There will be time for creative free-building, too! 

Mad Scientists 
Grades 1–2

Session 5 (PM)

Summer at Norwood’s Mad Scientists will satisfy their scientific curiosity through hands-on experiments, creative science tricks, and enlightening activities. Any camper with an interest in science and a passion for discovery is sure to love this popular program. Key scientific concepts will be demonstrated through age-appropriate learning and activities. What extra materials can be added to make the highest bubble tower? Why do different gasses make balloons fall at different speeds? What happens when Mentos are added to soda? Campers will become Mad Scientists when they conduct these and many other wild experiments!

 

Chemical Reactions

Grades 3 – 6 

Session 5 (PM)

 

In this offering, young scientists will watch concoctions fizz, foam, bubble, and BOOM as they discover the fundamentals of chemistry. Through experimentation and observation, campers will learn about acids and bases, the way different mixtures affect reactions, and the ways in which they interact with chemistry throughout their daily lives. Whether constructing a volcano, making water glow, creating steam, or experimenting with fire, campers will connect science to real-world situations while having a superlative time. 

Graphic Design

Grades 5-8 

Session 4 (AM)

 

Campers can combine their love of art and computers in this stimulating class. Using innovative programs like, Adobe, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and others, campers will bring their creativity to life and showcase it on a digital canvas.  They will also develop an impressive portfolio to take home to share!

Structural Design

Grades 3 – 6 

Session 5 (AM)

 

This class is perfect for campers who love to combine art with math!  Campers will study architecture and examine the development of an architectural structure.  They will plan what type of architectural structure they would like to create, including location and what the structure will be used for.  Campers will then draft and design their own structure, choose materials to create their own full model architectural structure, and complete a final design of their structure.

In this exciting class, campers will journey into the imaginative world of children’s literature through exposure to some of the world’s most influential authors, including but not limited to reading selections from Dr. Seuss, Ezra Jack Keats, Laura Numeroff, and more!   Campers will enjoy a variety of activities associated with some of their favorite books, they will explore books both as a group and individually, and most importantly, they will have fun with reading!  Both beginning readers and more experienced readers are welcome.

Math Mania

Grades 1 – 2

Hooray MATH!!  Math Mania campers will explore the realm of mathematics through real-life simulations, math games, computer programs, and creative manipulative. This class allows campers to improve their math skills in a collaborative and entertaining environment by blending mathematics concepts with fun and adventure.  

Math Olympics

Grades 3-5 

Session 5 (AM)

This dynamic class will encourage students to hone their math skills by playing games and solving creative problems in an Olympic-like atmosphere. Working independently and in groups, campers will be challenged to use their math skills to compete in a range of math-themed events and contests!  “Mathletes” of all skill levels are welcome, and will be stimulated to develop a new enthusiasm for problem-solving.

Reading Booster

Grades 1 - 2

Campers will focus on the FUNdamentals of reading in this academic support class. Reading Booster is designed to reinforce key concepts and skills in reading through academic games, puzzles, and activities. Each class is focused on specific grades so campers will receive specialized attention, giving them the support and confidence they’ll need to thrive in the upcoming school year.

Sports Business 

Grades 3 - 5 

Session 4 (PM)

The athletes, the action, the score and the glory are just the beginning to Sports Business. This new class will explore the business behind our favorite pastimes. Math and marketing, strategy and splendor builds a great team. Campers dig deep into researching upcoming Hall of Famers, consider trades like a team’s General Manager would need to and research where the money goes from the purchase of sports memorabilia.  These are the first steps for a budding entrepreneur!

 

Free Swim

Grades 1 – 5 

Sessions 4 and 5 (PM)

What better way to spend the summer than swimming at the pool!  Campers and experienced staff will take a Norwood bus to local pool for an afternoon of fun and supervised swim time.  This is not a swim lesson, but rather a wonderful opportunity for campers to splash and play in the sun with friends.  Staff will administer a swim test on the first day to assess swimming ability.  The ability to swim is encouraged but not mandatory, as the pool has a shallow end and always has lifeguards on duty.

I'm a Super Hero

New!

Grades 1 – 2 

Session 5 (AM)

It’s a bird.  It’s a plane.  No, it’s a Norwood Superhero!  In this innovative, imaginative class, campers will learn about super heroes and their powers.  They will create their very own super hero, including the hero’s super powers, costume, and alter ego.   Campers will learn that having super powers requires responsibility, and that even super heroes must train to develop their super skills!  Super fun for everyone!

Sports Triple Threat
Grades 1–3

Three, two, one – Let’s Play!  Three of Summer at Norwood’s favorite games throughout the years have been combined into one amazing class!  Campers will love to enter Norwood’s very own Ga-Ga pit to play this wildly popular camp classic.  Explore variations of each game: Norwood’s own Crazy Kickball, Doctor Dodge, etc.  Perfect for Summer at Norwood veterans or brand new campers who are energetic and ready to play!

Mission Impossible
Grades 3–6 

Session 4 (AM)

 

Your campers’ mission, should they choose to accept it, is to delve into the world of espionage in this compelling class.  Young secret agents-in-training will learn an array of spy tactics including decoding, elusive and evasive action, and mastering the art of disguise.  They will then put their training into action to solve challenges before embarking on one final mission! 

Sports and Games
Grades 1–4 

Sessions 4 and 5 (AM) 

 

In this popular offering, campers will explore teamwork, creativity, and cooperative activities by learning the basic elements of a variety of sports and games. Perfect for the energetic camper, this class will play sports such as basketball and soccer, active games such as capture the flag and ultimate dodge ball, and board or card games in a classroom setting. Campers are sure to love playing the camp favorite Ga Ga Ball in Summer at Norwood’s new Ga Ga pit.  This is an active class in which campers will work together while learning to utilize their individual strengths and abilities. Sports + Games = Fabulous Fun!

Game On!

Grades 4-8 

Sessions 4 and 5 (PM)

Offering a great mix of both traditional and non-traditional games, Game On is the perfect class for campers who want to have fun, gain confidence, and keep moving! Campers will develop and hone their individual and team skills while playing sports such as flag football, soccer, basketball, or lacrosse. They will also learn and engage in fun games like Ultimate Frisbee, Bowling, Bocce Ball, and fun card games. Campers are sure to love playing the camp favorite Ga Ga Ball in Summer at Norwood’s Ga Ga pit.  Teamwork and sportsmanship are emphasized and campers will even be able to steer the direction of the class as they decide as a group which sports and games they would like to try!
