One-Week Options

For Sessions 4 and 5

In an effort to provide convenient and flexible solutions to our family's scheduling needs, Summer at Norwood offers one-week options for our Combo Camp and Junior Day programs during Sessions 4 and 5, which are generally two-week sessions.

 

Combo Camp classes that are available for one-week registration are listed below.  Please note that the selections are limited because many Combo Camp classes in Sessions 4 and 5 are designed with a two-week curricula.  Click the "ONE WEEK REGISTER HERE" button above to sign-up for a portion of any of these great sessions.

All one week sessions are $420 per week. Additional materials fees may apply.

Awesome Art

Grades 1 – 2 

Session 5 (PM)

 

In this popular Summer at Norwood classic, budding artists have the opportunity to explore and express their creativity through various forms of art. In one of Norwood’s art studios, campers will undertake a variety of projects and use their skills to create works that they can take home to display proudly!  Students’ work may include drawing, painting, collage, creative projects using recycled materials, and more! *Material Fee: $25 (Two-Week Session), $15 (One-Week Session).

Little Picassos

Grades 1 – 2 

Session 4 (AM)

It’s a bird.  It’s a plane.  No, it’s a Norwood Superhero!  In this innovative, imaginative class, campers will learn about super heroes and their powers.  They will create their very own super hero, including the hero’s super powers, costume, and alter ego.   Campers will learn that having super powers requires responsibility, and that even super heroes must train to develop their super skills!  Super fun for everyone! *Material Fee: $25 (Two-Week Session), $15 (One-Week Session).

 

Digital Art and Design 

Grades 3-5

Sessions 5 (AM)

Campers will use Photoshop to create fun and interesting digital art projects and animations.  This class with focus on learning Photoshop tools and techniques, while exploring the principles of art and design. Campers will creatively demonstrate the principles of art through their digital creations and learn the key concept in creating a successful work of art through digital art and graphic design.

Woodcrafts

Grades 3-5

Sessions 5 (AM)

This class is perfect for campers who are eager to create and build.  Young woodworkers will learn to craft various projects in an inspiring and age-appropriate manner, all with wood!  Whether creating popsicle stick houses, birdhouses, picture frames, or wooden toys, our future carpenters will love using their own hands to assemble wonderful wooden crafts! *Material Fee: $25 (Two-Week Session), $15 (One-Week Session).

 

Studio Art

Grades 5-8

Sessions 5 (AM)

Campers will learn, explore and investigate a wide variety of art mediums. Campers will demonstrate the elements of art and the principles of design that artist use to create a successful works of art.  Campers will attain skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and more.   Campers in studio Art will enjoy learning and exploring advanced studio art techniques by creating their own effective works of art. *Material Fee: $25 (Two-Week Session), $15 (One-Week Session).

Photography

Grades 4-8

Session 5 (PM)

There is a lot more to photography than pointing a Smart phone and clicking!  In photography class, campers will not only learn about how to use a camera and all about its features, they will begin to develop an eye for the elements that go into taking a great photo. Developing photographers will gain an awareness of the fundamental elements of shape, form, composition, light, and shadow. Current editing techniques will be explored using Adobe Photoshop Elements to enhance imagery. Campers will create their own portfolios that will showcase their photographs of landscapes, portraits, and architecture. The cameras will be provided, so all campers need to bring is their creativity and enthusiasm!

 

Into the Deep: Sea and Space 

Grades 1-2

Calling all explorers!  Let’s examine the final two mysterious frontiers:  the seas and outer space!  These final frontiers are vast spaces filled with unique creatures and natural wonders that are just waiting to be uncovered and explored.  Campers will take an expedition to the mysterious world that thrives under the sea.  From shallow coral reefs to the darkest depths, campers will learn all about our oceans and the unique creatures that lie within.  Campers will also journey through the cosmos to discover planets, asteroids, stars, black holes, and more!  This exciting class will also offer a variety of interactive projects and lively activities! 

Young Builders 

Grades 1-2

Calling all budding architects and engineers!  This is the class for you!  Campers will learn basic concepts of structure, design, and architecture, all while having fun building projects with a variety of materials, from blocks and magna tiles to recycled materials.  They will work both as a team and individually to create structures and objects by setting goals and overcoming challenges.   There will be time for creative free-building, too! 

Crazy Chemistry

In this offering, young scientists will watch concoctions fizz, foam, bubble, and BOOM as they discover the fundamentals of chemistry. Through experimentation and observation, campers will learn about acids and bases, the way different mixtures affect reactions, and the ways in which they interact with chemistry throughout their daily lives. Whether constructing a volcano, making water glow, creating steam, or experimenting with fire, campers will connect science to real-world situations while having a superlative time. *Material Fee: $25 (Two-Week Session), $15 (One-Week Session).

Mad Scientists 
Grades 1–2

Session 4 (PM)

Summer at Norwood’s Mad Scientists will satisfy their scientific curiosity through hands-on experiments, creative science tricks, and enlightening activities. Any camper with an interest in science and a passion for discovery is sure to love this popular program. Key scientific concepts will be demonstrated through age-appropriate learning and activities. What extra materials can be added to make the highest bubble tower? Why do different gasses make balloons fall at different speeds? What happens when Mentos are added to soda? Campers will become Mad Scientists when they conduct these and many other wild experiments!

Nature Guardians

Session 5 (AM)

 Using Norwood’s beautiful campus, campers will learn about nature and the environment with an emphasis on the relationship between humans and the natural world.  Campers will be challenged to find ways in which they can help protect our environment while learning about the animals, plants, ecosystems, and the abundant beauty right outside our doors here at Norwood and beyond!

Building with LEGO

Grades 1-2

Session 4 (PM)

Nothing brings out creativity, ingenuity, and problem-solving abilities like Lego building and design.  On top of all that, it’s really fun!  Campers will learn the application of engineering, technology, and art concepts all while having fun working both individually and in teams to build cool Lego projects.  They will work from themed Lego sets and will collaborate with classmates to create larger projects through step-by-step problem solving.  Campers will have time for creative free-building, too!

 

Graphic Design

Grades 5-8

Campers can combine their love of art and computers in this stimulating class. Using innovative programs like, Adobe, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and others, campers will bring their creativity to life and showcase it on a digital canvas.  They will also develop an impressive portfolio to take home to share!

Inventors' Lab

Grades 3 - 5 

Session 5 (PM)

Does your child like to build and design big ideas?  This class encourages campers to dream, tinker, and make discoveries!  Inventor’s Lab will explore the inventing process and examine how ideas are transformed and built into prototypes. We will supply the materials, guidance, and supervision.  Campers will supply the ingenuity and creativity as they design and build their own invention.  The next big idea might just come from your camper in Summer at Norwood’s Inventor’s Lab!

Reading Booster

Grades 1 - 2

Campers will focus on the FUNdamentals of reading in this academic support class. Reading Booster is designed to reinforce key concepts and skills in reading through academic games, puzzles, and activities. Each class is focused on specific grades so campers will receive specialized attention, giving them the support and confidence they’ll need to thrive in the upcoming school year.

 

Kids Cook

Grades 1-3

Session 4 (AM)

Kids Cook is an entry-level cooking class held in our Norwood School kitchen. Campers of all culinary expertise learn the basics of mastering styles of proper knife skills, temperature control and proper food handling. Campers collaborate to create recipes for taste testing and critiquing as well as work with a Norwood culinary cooking instructor to make kid’s favorites daily from Tapas, Sauces, and Pastas to Cupcakes, Crepes and Cookies. Your culinary artist will create a signature recipe to trade with the other chefs as well as combine all the weekly recipes into one awesome cookbook! Mix up some summer memories with Kids Cook.  (Note: All recipes and projects in the class will be meat and peanut-free)

Sports and Games
Grades 1–3

Sessions 4 (PM) 

 

In this popular offering, campers will explore teamwork, creativity, and cooperative activities by learning the basic elements of a variety of sports and games. Perfect for the energetic camper, this class will play sports such as basketball and soccer, active games such as capture the flag and ultimate dodge ball, and board or card games in a classroom setting. Campers are sure to love playing the camp favorite Ga Ga Ball in Summer at Norwood’s new Ga Ga pit.  This is an active class in which campers will work together while learning to utilize their individual strengths and abilities. Sports + Games = Fabulous Fun!

Free Swim

Grades 1 – 5 

Sessions 4 and 5 (PM)

What better way to spend the summer than swimming at the pool!  Campers and experienced staff will take a Norwood bus to local pool for an afternoon of fun and supervised swim time.  This is not a swim lesson, but rather a wonderful opportunity for campers to splash and play in the sun with friends.  Staff will administer a swim test on the first day to assess swimming ability.  The ability to swim is encouraged but not mandatory, as the pool has a shallow end and always has lifeguards on duty.

Fiber Crafts NEW!

Explore hand-sewing, embroidery, knitting, weaving, needle-felting and more by creating fun, one-of-a-kind fiber arts projects. Students are guided by patient and skilled instructors to embrace their imagination and harness their potential through creation. Fiber Arts meets each student where they are on their creative journey, whether they are first-time creators or returners. Each week, campers have the opportunity to develop new skills and tackle new challenges with our rotating curriculum of projects. *Material Fee: $25 (Two-Week Session), $15 (One-Week Session).

Extra, Extra!  In addition to other important basics of news reporting and journalism, budding journalists will learn how to implement the critical five W’s of good reporting: Who, What, When, Where, and Why.  Campers will report on events at camp, interview campers and staff, and create an actual news publication!

Mission Impossible
Grades 3–6

Your campers’ mission, should they choose to accept it, is to delve into the world of espionage in this compelling class.  Young secret agents-in-training will learn an array of spy tactics including decoding, elusive and evasive action, and mastering the art of disguise.  They will then put their training into action to solve challenges before embarking on one final mission! 

Game On: Sports and Beyond!

Grades 4-8 

Sessions 4 (AM) and 5 (PM)

Offering a great mix of both traditional and non-traditional games, Game On is the perfect class for campers who want to have fun, gain confidence, and keep moving! Campers will develop and hone their individual and team skills while playing sports such as flag football, soccer, basketball, or lacrosse. They will also learn and engage in fun games like Ultimate Frisbee, Bowling, Bocce Ball, and fun card games. Campers are sure to love playing the camp favorite Ga Ga Ball in Summer at Norwood’s Ga Ga pit.  Teamwork and sportsmanship are emphasized and campers will even be able to steer the direction of the class as they decide as a group which sports and games they would like to try!

Chefs-in-Training

Grades 4 – 8

Session 5 (AM)

Chefs in Training is a completely interactive class, where young culinary masters will learn many of the basics of cooking, such as how to read and reference a recipe, proper measuring and knife skills, as well as cooking techniques such as baking, grilling, and sautéing. Campers collaborate to create recipes for taste testing and critiquing as well as work with a Norwood culinary cooking instructor to recreate recipes from Tapas, Sauces, and Pastas to Cupcakes, Crepes and Cookies.
